Chief Executive Officer of Harimau Malaya, Rob Friend, has issued a strong statement following FIFA’s sanctions on seven Malaysian heritage players, calling the decision “shocking” and pledging the national team’s unity and resolve as they prepare for the challenges ahead.
“We are shocked by FIFA’s decision and the unprecedented sanctions imposed on our players,” said Friend in the official release. “FAM has addressed the administrative matters under review, and the national team stands firmly behind the appeal process.”
Despite the setback, Friend stressed that Harimau Malaya will not be distracted from their immediate objectives. With crucial World Cup and Asian Cup qualification matches against Laos on the horizon, the national squad will keep their attention firmly on discipline, professionalism, and performance on the pitch.
“As Harimau Malaya, our full focus is on the road ahead, preparing a strong team for the upcoming qualification matches against Laos and ensuring our discipline, professionalism, and performance continue to reflect the pride and spirit of the nation,” he added.
The Canadian-born CEO also underscored the importance of trusting the process as FAM moves forward with its appeal, expressing confidence in a fair and transparent resolution.
“This is a defining moment for Malaysian football. Harimau Malaya remains united and resolute, standing with our players, coaches, and staff as we move forward with purpose and determination,” Friend affirmed.
The statement highlights FAM’s determination to safeguard the integrity of Malaysian football, even as the team faces uncertainty over the eligibility of several key players.
