Malaysia’s mixed doubles challenge at the PETRONAS Malaysia Open came to an end after reigning world champions Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei were knocked out in the quarter-finals by Hong Kong’s Tang Chun Man–Tse Ying Suet on Friday (Jan 9).
Playing before a partisan home crowd at the Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil, the world No. 4 Malaysians showed flashes of resilience but were ultimately outlasted by the world No. 8 Hong Kong pair, going down 17-21, 21-17, 10-21 in a three-game battle.
Tang Jie and Ee Wei fought back strongly in the second game to keep their campaign alive, but the intensity took its toll in the decider, where Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet asserted control with sharper court coverage and consistency.
The defeat also ended the Malaysians’ hopes of reaching back-to-back semi-finals on home soil, marking their second loss in four meetings against the Hong Kong duo.
