Johor Darul Ta’Zim advanced to Quarter-Final after repeating a victory over PJ City with a score of 2-0 in the TM Piala Malaysia 2022 Round of 16 2nd leg at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, Johor Bahru.
In the first match, Hector Bidoglio’s squad tamed PJ City FC 4-0 and the win in the second match allowed last season’s prestigious cup runners-up to meet Kelantan FC in the quarter-finals after the team from the east coast defeated Sarawak United FC.
In that match, the manager who was born in Argentina brought down the second line of the team and saw a glimpse of Jordi Amat appearing for the first time in the Malaysian League scene this season.
Bergson Da Silva’s reappearance in the starting line-up really paid off in the third minute when he unleashed a powerful shot from 30 meters from Shio Hong’s feed into the left corner of the goal until Kalamullah Al-Hafiz Mat Rowi was transfixed as he watched the ball hit the net.
After the initial goal, PJ City tried to break down JDT’s defense which was closely guarded by Jordi’s partnership with Shahrul Saad and Feroz Baharudin until the attack line of The Phoenix was deadlocked.
Despite being comfortable with an aggregate of 5-0, Bidoglio’s students continued to hunt for goals, but PJ City FC’s compact playing style in the defensive position forced several attempts from outside the box to be made.
The home team punished the visiting team in the 72nd minute after a one-two move between substitute Fernando Forestier and Bergson saw the Argentinian import easily push the ball past Kalamullah and the 2-0 score in favor of JDT remained until the end of the match.
Johor Darul Ta’Zim passed to the quarter-final to face Kelantan FC on 5/6 November (first leg) and 11/12 November (second leg).
