Terengganu FC made a surprise at home and took advantage in the first match after beating Selangor FC scoring 3-2 in the Piala FA Malaysia 2024/25 semi-final first match at Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium, Gong Badak.
Selangor FC started strong, with Alvin Fortes making a dangerous attempt in the 12th minute, saved by defender Muhammad Alif Zakaria after goalkeeper Syed Muhammad Nasrulhaq Syed Bidin was caught out of position.
Safawi Rasid opened the scoring for Terengganu with a stunning free kick in the 30th minute.
Nurillo Tukhtasinov extended the lead with a powerful shot from outside the penalty box in the 35th minute, much to the delight of nearly 32,000 fans.
Selangor narrowed the gap to 2-1 in the 38th minute when Dutch-born player Alvin Fortes scored from a Mukhairi Ajmal Mahadi cross.
Noor Al Rawabdeh equalized for Selangor early in the second half, scoring in the 47th minute from a Fortes cross.
Terengganu took the lead again in the 69th minute when Ismaheel Akinade headed in a pass from Tukhtasinov, securing a 3-2 victory.
The 3-2 position remained until the end of the match before the return action at the MBPJ Stadium, Petaling Jaya on 3 August to determine the team that will play in the final stage.
