Selangor FC qualify to quarter-final round after winning over Kuala Lumpur City with a score 1-0 in the Malaysia FA Cup 2022 round of 16 at MBPJ Stadium, Petaling Jaya.
While many expected intense action to be presented by both teams, instead the match started blandly which saw the first half end without a goal.
Selangor’s long-awaited goal only came after an hour of play when substitute Aliff Haiqal Lokman Hakim Lau calmly completed the opportunity in the waiting box in the 62nd minute.
KL City tried to get up to chase the equalizer and Jordan Mintah’s attempt from outside the penalty box in the 84th minute was saved by goalkeeper Sam Somerville.
The 1-0 lead in favor of Selangor remained until the final whistle, thus giving relief to its operator, Michael Feichtenbeiner who was previously under pressure.
The German operator is facing pressure from Red Giants supporters to resign following Selangor’s lackluster performance in the Super League.
Selangor, which last won the FA Cup in 2009, will face Sabah in the quarterfinals with the action taking place at the Likas Stadium, on July 23.
