Selangor FC emerged spot to a finalist after beating Terengganu FC scoring 4-1 in the Piala FA Malaysia 2024/25 semi-final 2nd leg at Stadium MBPJ Stadium, Petaling Jaya.
With this win, Selangor, five-time champions, advanced with a 6-4 aggregate after a 2-3 loss in the first leg at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium on July 19. This marks Selangor’s first return to the FA Cup final since 2018, where they lost 0-2 to Pahang.
Despite being on the bench, Faisal’s presence seemed to boost Selangor, as they quickly neutralized TFC’s advantage within three minutes. Captain Safuwan Baharudin headed in Yohandry Orozco’s corner kick to open the scoring. Three minutes later, another corner from Orozco was again headed in by Safuwan, putting Selangor ahead 4-3 on aggregate.
TFC managed to respond in the 22nd minute when Ismaheel Akinade’s shot deflected off Selangor defender Fazly Mazlan and into the net. However, Safuwan continued to be a key player for Selangor, completing a hat-trick in the 55th minute with a shot from a Nooa Laine pass.
TFC nearly equalized 10 minutes later, but Safawi Rasid’s deflected shot hit the goal bar. Substitute Reziq Bani Hani sealed Selangor’s victory with a goal in injury time, maintaining the Red Giants’ unbeaten home record this season.
Selangor will face either the defending champions Johor Darul Ta’zim or Kedah Darul Aman in the final, with their semi-final clash scheduled to take place at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium tomorrow night.
