Selangor FC even remains 9 players on the field but they advanced to the semi-final after winning Kuching City by penalty shoot-out scoring 5-3, after Selangor FC won in the 120 minutes 3-2 and tied 4-4 on aggregate score in the Piala FA Malaysia 2024/25 quarter-final second leg at MBPJ Stadium, Petaling Jaya.
The match started with Kuching City showing early intent, launching a precise free-kick in the third minute, which was expertly saved by Selangor’s goalkeeper, Sam Somerville. In the 14th minute, Shamie Iszuan opened the scoring for Kuching City, capitalizing on a pass from Jordan Mintah.
Selangor FC quickly responded, equalizing in the 27th minute through defender Ahmad Zikri Khalili. Just before halftime, Alvin Fortes added another for Selangor, giving them a 2-1 lead going into the break.
Selangor continued their offensive push in the second half, but the match was briefly paused due to a floodlight failure at the stadium. Once play resumed, Kuching City had a chance to equalize, but Jordan Mintah’s shot was superbly saved by Somerville.
Drama ensued when Selangor’s Yohandry Orozco received a red card following a review by the VAR system after a fight incident. Despite being a man down, Alvin Fortes netted his second goal, putting Selangor 3-1 up. However, Kuching City’s Muhammad Alif Hassan scored soon after, bringing the score to 3-2 and leveling the aggregate at 4-4, sending the match into extra time.
In extra time, Selangor faced further adversity when Reziq Bani Hani received a red card, reducing the team to nine players. The score remained unchanged, leading to a penalty shoot-out.
Selangor FC emerged victorious in the shoot-out, winning 5-3 and securing their place in the semi-finals. They will face Terengganu FC in a two-legged semi-final, with dates and venues to be announced later.
