Perak FC, have officially withdrawn from the upcoming Liga Super Malaysia season due to severe financial difficulties, marking a heartbreaking end to a proud footballing legacy.
The shocking announcement was confirmed today by Perak FC Chairman, Datuk Seri Azim Zabidi, in a statement shared with BH Sukan. Azim revealed that despite enormous efforts and investments to rebuild the club, financial realities have forced them to make the painful decision.
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce this. The time has come. We are officially withdrawing from next season’s Super League and ending Perak FC’s journey,” Azim stated.
Since taking over a club burdened with nearly RM8 million in unpaid wages, the management had worked tirelessly to stabilize the situation, spending almost RM40 million over three years.
“We started with big dreams — to build something sustainable and something the people of Perak could be proud of. With your support, we believed we could create not just a competitive team, but a club rooted in community spirit and passion for football,” he said.
However, the expected support, both from the public and private sectors in Perak, failed to materialize. Growth in fan subscriptions and commercial backing fell significantly short of expectations, leading to an unsustainable financial position.
“The internal funds are now exhausted, and we simply cannot continue. The reality is, the support we needed didn’t grow as hoped. This is not the ending we dreamed of, but we have done everything in our power,” Azim added.
Rumors of Perak FC’s impending collapse had surfaced yesterday and spread rapidly on social media. Today’s official confirmation brings a solemn end to one of Malaysia’s most historic football clubs.
Azim also confirmed that the club would continue operations temporarily to liquidate remaining assets and merchandise, with all proceeds dedicated to settling outstanding salaries and debts.
“Every single cent collected will go towards fulfilling our obligations, just as we have done over the past three years. Although the remaining funds are insufficient, we are committed to using what little we have for the welfare of our players and staff,” he assured.
In his closing remarks, Azim expressed deep gratitude to the fans:
“Thank you for standing with us, through thick and thin. We will always cherish your cheers, your pride, and your unwavering love.”
