Penang FC’s Board of Directors has taken a significant step to strengthen the club’s position in Liga Super Malaysia 2024/25, officially parting ways with Head Coach Akmal Rizal.
This strategic shift is part of the club’s ambition to enhance its performance and overall competitiveness in the league.
Although Akmal will no longer lead the main squad, his efforts and dedication to Penang FC are deeply appreciated. The club values his contribution and has retained him to oversee the development of other teams within the organization.
During this interim phase, Assistant Head Coach Mat Saiful bin Mohamad will take over as acting head coach, supported by Technical Director Merzagua Abderrazak. The Malaysian Football League (MFL) has already approved this arrangement, ensuring continuity for the team until a permanent replacement is finalized. The board has been in discussions with several experienced candidates since October 21, with an announcement anticipated soon.
The Board of Directors also extended their gratitude to Penang FC’s supporters for their unwavering loyalty, acknowledging the critical role of fan support during this transition. With confidence in the leadership of Coach Mat Saiful and Technical Director Merzagua, Penang FC is poised for a revitalized and competitive Super League campaign ahead.
