Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) has officially appointed Dutch football legend Patrick Kluivert as the head coach of the Indonesia national team.
Kluivert has signed a two-year contract from 2025 to 2027, with an option for an extension.
Kluivert, born in Amsterdam on July 1, 1976, is renowned as one of the greatest Dutch strikers of his era. His illustrious playing career saw him represent top European clubs such as Ajax Amsterdam, AC Milan, Barcelona, Valencia, Newcastle United, PSV Eindhoven, and Lille.
After retiring in 2008, Kluivert transitioned into coaching, bringing with him a wealth of experience. His coaching journey began as an assistant coach at AZ Alkmaar, NEC Nijmegen, and Brisbane Roar, before leading Jong Twente to a championship title.
Other notable achievements include: Assistant Coach to Louis van Gaal for the Netherlands national team, which finished third in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, Head Coach of Curaçao during the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and the 2017 Caribbean Cup of Nations qualifiers, Sporting Director at Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona Academy Director, Assistant Coach for the Cameroon national team under Clarence Seedorf, Most recently, head coach of Turkish club Adana Demirspor.
Kluivert will be assisted by fellow Dutch coaches Alex Pastoor and Denny Landzaat, alongside two Indonesian assistant coaches, ensuring local involvement in the national setup.
Kluivert’s first assignment will be guiding Indonesia in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifiers (Group C). Indonesia will face Australia on March 20, 2025, at the Sydney Football Stadium and Bahrain on March 25, 2025, at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, Jakarta.
