Rahimi scored the first goal just before halftime and then doubled the lead with a penalty six minutes into the second half, giving the Atlas Lions a surprising 2-0 advantage. Argentina’s Giuliano Simeone managed to reduce the deficit in the 68th minute, setting up a tense finish to the match.
Deep into stoppage time, Christian Medina appeared to score an equalizer for Argentina in the 16th minute of added time, leading to another pitch invasion by Moroccan fans protesting the late goal. The stadium was cleared of spectators, and after a lengthy delay, players returned to the pitch to complete the match with three additional minutes of added time.
After that, this match was significantly delayed due to a pitch invasion by fans, causing an interruption of almost two hours. Once play resumed behind closed doors, the match turned in Morocco’s favor thanks to a brace from Soufiane Rahimi.
Before play resumed, Medina’s goal was disallowed by VAR for offside, allowing Morocco to hold on for the victory.
