Malaysian men’s doubles pair, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, advanced to the semi-finals after defeating the Indian pair, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, in the quarter-finals of the men’s doubles badminton event at the Olympics 2024 held at Porte de La Chapelle Arena, Paris.
The world’s third-ranked pair overcame India’s top team, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, with scores of 13-21, 21-14, and 21-16 in a match lasting 59 minutes.
In the first set, Aaron and Wooi Yik appeared to struggle against the aggressive attacks of Rankireddy and Shetty, losing 13-21.
The second set was filled with excitement as Rankireddy and Shetty initially pulled ahead, but Aaron and Wooi Yik managed to equalize at 9-9. They then found their rhythm, capitalizing on their opponents’ mistakes to secure a 21-14 victory, forcing a deciding set.
In the final set, Aaron and Wooi Yik started strong and managed to maintain their lead, despite the opposition’s efforts. They extended their advantage to 18-16 and finally closed the match with a 21-16 win.
In the semi-finals, Aaron and Wooi Yik are set to face the world’s top team from China, Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang.
