Despite a resounding 6-1 victory over Canada to wrap up their group stage campaign, national junior hockey head coach Nor Saiful Zaini Nasiruddin remains grounded, urging his charges to sharpen their focus ahead of the ultimate test in the Sultan of Johor Cup (SoJC) final against Pakistan.

Reflecting on the group stage closer, Nor Saiful admitted the performance was far from flawless, attributing the missed chances and occasional sloppy play to his decision to rotate the squad. By resting key starters and handing valuable minutes to fringe players, the Young Tigers managed to navigate the tie without picking up any injuries or cards, ensuring a fully fit and rested squad for tomorrow's title decider.

"We always step onto the pitch to win and play well, but fielding players who rarely get much game time naturally exposed some weaknesses, particularly in our finishing," Nor Saiful explained. "However, securing the win while giving valuable experience to the wider squad was the goal. The most important thing is that we have no injuries or suspensions. Now, our absolute priority is playing well and winning the final."

Turning his attention to the looming showdown, the seasoned coach was quick to acknowledge Pakistan's lethal attacking prowess. He highlighted their blistering pace across the midfield and forward lines, coupled with their exceptional basic skills, warning his team of the massive threat the South Asian giants pose.

To counter Pakistan's trademark speed, Nor Saiful has demanded strict tactical discipline from his squad. He emphasized the need to shut down the middle of the pitch, completely eliminate ball-watching, and significantly increase their reaction speed in tackles and defensive transitions.

"Inside, if you are slow, you will end up chasing them. A mistimed tackle or hitting the stick means giving away a Penalty Corner or picking up a yellow card. We simply cannot afford to make those mistakes and risk playing with 10 men," he warned.

Ultimately, Nor Saiful stressed that the championship will be decided by efficiency in the final third. "The players must know how to control the game. We will get our chances, and we need to create as many opportunities as possible in their half. Most importantly, when those chances come, we must be clinical and score. That is the crucial key for our team tomorrow."
