Nooa Laine, Attacking midfielder, Finnish-Malaysian and Malaysia national team age 21, joined Selangor FC and wearing jersey No.6 in the season 2024/25.
Nooa’s journey in the professional football scene began in Ykkönen, the second division of the Finnish League, with his hometown club, JJK Jyväskylä, in 2018. He made 15 appearances and scored one goal in the first year of his professional career.
He then joined Klubi 04, the development team of HJK Helsinki in the 2019 and 2020 seasons. Nooa added 26 appearances and 5 goals to his personal record for two seasons with the club.
The next season was a stepping stone for Nooa when he was promoted to the first team of SJK Seinäjoki after playing in 16 games with the club’s development squad. This midfielder’s career continues to rise after playing 64 games with four goals with SJK Seinäjoki in the Veikkausliiga, division 1 of the Finnish League, for three seasons from 2021 to 2023.
In 2022, he received a national call-up. He helped the Malaysia U23 national team squad qualify for the AFC U23 Asian Cup 2024 in Qatar during the Qualifying rounds against the Philippines and Thailand, where Nooa was named in the starting line-up for both matches.
His excellent performance with the national U23 squad captured the heart of the country’s Head Coach, Kim Pan-Gon, and he finally made his debut with the Harimau Malaya squad during an international friendly match against Turkmenistan on 23 March 2023.
“Selangor FC contacted me long ago to explain the role and importance of my service to the team. Since then, I have also heard a lot of positive things about the culture and direction of the club from my teammates in the Malaysian national squad. To be honest, I am happy with the decision to be with them because I am confident that Selangor FC will be the club that helps me achieve success together.” Nooa said with Selangor FC website.
“Among the advantages I have is that I can balance the game in the midfield, score goals from various angles, and play in various positions to help the team this season. For me, playing under the care of Tan Cheng Hoe means I will learn many things to develop my talent as a player further, and it will also help the team in the future because I am sure he is a great coach,”
“I have seen some videos where Selangor FC has many supporters who have attended previous matches, and it makes me excited to perform in front of you all. Hope to see you soon.”
