Selangor FC midfielder Nikola Jambor has expressed his strong desire to help the club break its decade-long trophy drought.
The last time Selangor lifted a major title was in 2015 when they won the prestigious Malaysia Cup under Australian coach Mehmet Durakovic.
Since then, the Red and Yellows have faced a dry spell, with their best recent achievement being runners-up in the FA Cup in August 2024.
Jambor, a Croatian midfielder who joined Selangor FC during the second transfer window of the Malaysia League (M League), acknowledged the disappointment among players and fans after the team’s early exits from the AFC Champions League 2 (ACL2) and Malaysia Cup.
“We know the fans and players are frustrated. In the dressing room, we talk about how 90% of the players here have never won a trophy in their careers,” Jambor told Astro Arena’s Fina Nasrom.
“But this is football. A trophy, regardless of its importance, is still a championship. It’s a big achievement for the club, and we must do everything possible to win it,” he emphasized.
Since his arrival, Jambor has made 12 appearances across all competitions, contributing significantly to Selangor’s campaign.
Currently, Selangor FC is focused on securing a spot in the MFL Challenge Cup final. They hold a 1-0 aggregate advantage after defeating Penang FC in the first leg of the semi-finals on January 19.
