Majlis Sukan Negara Selangor (MSNS) has initiated the Selangor FC Solidarity Fund to rally support for Selangor FC following a controversial decision by the Malaysian Football League (MFL). The fund was launched on the night of 26 June and will be active until 2 July 2024.
Mohd Najwan Halimi, Chairman of the Majlis Sukan Negeri Selangor Committee, explained that the fund aims to support Selangor FC in their fight against what has been deemed an “unfair and oppressive” fine of RM100,000. The fine was imposed for Selangor FC’s withdrawal from the Piala Sumbangsih 2024/25 match.
The fund allows Malaysians and football fans nationwide to express their support for Selangor FC with a small contribution of RM1.
“Football, which all this while has been upheld as a sport that unites the people, has now been marred by violence and extremism to the point of causing division.” Chairman MSN Selangor said.
“The state government respects the decree of the Sultan of Selangor, which reflects His Majesty’s firmness and sensitivity towards various issues and injustices faced by Selangor FC.”
“Therefore, this initiative aims to provide an opportunity for all Malaysians and football fans across the country, irrespective of state borders, to express support for Selangor FC by making a small contribution of RM1 to the Selangor FC Solidarity Fund.”
Najwan urged all those willing to support to scan the QR code provided to make their contributions, emphasizing the collective goal of restoring football as a harmonious and unifying sport.
“May this initiative encourage participation from all parties who share our aspirations of restoring football as a sport that fosters harmony and unity among the people.”
