Malaysian top men’s doubles pair Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik delivered a commanding performance in front of a roaring home crowd at the Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil, to storm into the semi-finals of the Malaysia Masters 2025.
The world-class duo, currently ranked second in Malaysia, outclassed Denmark’s Rasmus Kjaer and Frederik Sogaard in straight sets, sealing their place in the final four with a 21-10, 21-19 victory — a satisfying revenge after losing to the same pair in the first round of the All England 2025 earlier this year.
The result means Aaron-Wooi Yik will now join fellow Malaysians Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun and Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah in the semi-finals, marking a proud day for Malaysian badminton with three home pairs making deep runs in the tournament.
Backed by tens of thousands of passionate fans, Aaron and Wooi Yik were in total control in the opening set, dispatching the Danish pair 21-10 in just 14 minutes.
However, the second set proved to be a sterner test. Kjaer-Sogaard came out fighting, leading 11-10 at the mid-game interval and extending their advantage to 18-15 at one point. But the Malaysians, showing immense grit and experience, clawed their way back to level the score at 18-18 before closing out the match 21-19 — sending the crowd into a frenzy.
Their next test will be a high-stakes semi-final showdown against world number one pair, Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen of Denmark, who overcame compatriots Daniel Lundgaard and Mads Vestergaard 21-16, 22-20 in their own quarter-final tie.
The highly anticipated clash between Aaron-Wooi Yik and Astrup-Rasmussen promises fireworks as Malaysia’s finest look to book their spot in the Malaysia Masters final and cap off a redemptive campaign on home soil.
With three Malaysian pairs now in the semi-finals, national pride is running high. The electrifying atmosphere at the Axiata Arena is expected to intensify as fans rally behind their heroes in hopes of seeing a historic all-Malaysian final in both men’s and women’s doubles.
