Lion City Sailors have pulled off one of the biggest transfers in Singapore football history, securing the signature of prolific Brazilian striker Anderson Lopes from Japanese giants Yokohama F. Marinos for an undisclosed fee.
The 31-year-old forward, widely regarded as one of Asia’s most lethal attackers, has signed a three-year deal that will keep him at the club through the end of the 2027/28 Singapore Premier League (SPL) season. This marquee acquisition marks a bold statement of intent by the Sailors as they gear up to dominate both domestic competitions and the continental stage, including the ASEAN Club Championship (ACC) Shopee Cup and AFC Champions League Two (ACL Two).
Anderson Lopes arrives in Singapore with an elite résumé and a fearsome reputation. He was crowned the J1 League’s top scorer for two consecutive seasons (2023 and 2024) and played a pivotal role in Yokohama F. Marinos’ success since joining in 2022. He struck 11 goals in his debut season, guiding Marinos to the J1 League title, and followed that up by lifting the Japanese Super Cup in 2023.
His impact extended beyond Japan. Anderson starred in the 2023/24 AFC Champions League, where his nine-goal haul — second only in the tournament — saw him outperform global names such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Aleksandar Mitrović, and Ivan Toney, underlining his ability to thrive on the biggest stage.
Standing at 1.85m, Anderson combines strength, sharp movement, and an explosive left foot. His aerial dominance and ability to hold up play add a new dimension to the Sailors’ frontline. With 101 career goals in the J1 League, he brings a wealth of experience from top Asian leagues, including stints at Sanfrecce Hiroshima, Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo, and FC Seoul, as well as time in Brazil and China.
Sailors Head Coach Aleksandar Ranković was full of praise:
“Reaching 100 goals in a league as competitive as the J1 speaks volumes. But Anderson is more than just a scorer — he’s a complete forward who creates space and chances for others. He’ll be a massive asset for us.”
Executive Director Bruce Liang echoed those sentiments:
“This was an opportunity we couldn’t pass up. Anderson is a proven match-winner with a world-class mindset. His consistency and hunger for success align perfectly with our ambitions.”
Anderson’s departure from Yokohama was nothing short of cinematic. He signed off with the winning penalty in the Yokohama Derby on July 5, ending his Marinos stint with 81 goals in 157 appearances across four stellar seasons.
Now, all eyes turn to his next challenge with the Sailors.
“I’m excited to join the Sailors at this ambitious point in their journey,” Anderson said. “Their run to the ACL Two final last season caught my attention. I’m here to score goals, win trophies, and help the team make a lasting mark in Asia.”
