Terengganu FC produced a ruthless display on Friday night, thrashing Brunei’s DPMM FC 5-0 in the Liga Super Malaysia 2025/26 at Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Stadium, Bandar Seri Begawan.
The home side started with Syafiq Ahmad and Indonesian forward Ramadhan Sananta leading the attack, while veteran goalkeeper Kristijan Naumovski guarded the posts. Terengganu, meanwhile, fielded Brazilian striker Careca as their focal point in attack, with captain Shahrul Nizam marshalling the visitors.
The match could not have started worse for DPMM. Within just 11 seconds, Careca capitalized on a defensive error to open the scoring and silence the Bruneian crowd.
Terengganu continued to press forward, and in the 16th minute, Nurillo Tukhtasinov unleashed a thunderous strike to double the lead, putting the visitors firmly in control.
DPMM attempted to mount a response with several attacking moves, but Terengganu goalkeeper Suhaimi Husin was equal to the task, pulling off a string of impressive saves. The first half ended 2-0 to the Malaysians.
After the restart, DPMM pushed for a way back into the game, but their hopes were dashed as frustration grew. Syafiq Ahmad picked up a yellow card in the 67th minute for a late challenge.
In the 74th minute, Terengganu extended their lead when Careca calmly converted a penalty after a foul inside the box, completing his brace.
The visitors were relentless, and substitute Yann Mabella struck in the 84th minute to make it 4-0, effectively sealing the contest. Deep into stoppage time, Syahmi Zamri added a fifth, rounding off a statement victory for Terengganu.
The emphatic win lifts Terengganu’s confidence as they prepare for a Liga Super Malaysia clash against Selangor on August 27. DPMM, on the other hand, face a tough regroup before their FA Cup Round of 16 second-leg tie against Kuching City on September 14.
