Sri Pahang FC earned last 3 points of the season and make confidence before important match in next week after beating Penang FC scoring 3-2 in the Liga Super Malaysia 2024/25 at Stadium MPT, Temerloh.
Ahapov opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a clinical finish, giving Sri Pahang a 1-0 lead that they carried into halftime.
However, Penang came out firing in the second half, and Alif Ikmal found the equalizer just three minutes after the restart.
Sri Pahang quickly responded, with Syazwan Andik restoring the lead in the 58th minute. But disaster struck moments later when Stefano Bruno accidentally turned the ball into his own net, gifting Penang their second equalizer of the night in the 64th minute.
With the game seemingly headed for a draw, Ahapov rose to the occasion once more, latching onto a late chance to bury the winner and send the home fans into raptures.
The win sees Sri Pahang finish 6th in the Super League standings, collecting 29 points from 7 wins, 8 draws, and 9 losses. Penang, meanwhile, ends their season in 10th with 26 points from 6 wins.
More importantly, the performance offers a psychological lift for Fandi Ahmad’s side, who now turn their attention to the Malaysia Cup final against giants Johor Darul Ta’zim on April 26.
Head coach Fandi Ahmad will be pleased with the rhythm and resilience shown by his side. Players like goalkeeper Zarif Irfan, defenders Syazwan Andik and Adam Nor Azlin, and midfield maestro Azam Azih, alongside foreign imports Sergio Aguero and Stefano Bruno, are showing promising form.
The attacking combination of Ahapov and Baqiuddin continues to click at the right time—a crucial factor heading into the highly-anticipated final at Bukit Jalil.
