Selangor FC secured a crucial 3 points at home after defeating Kelantan Darul Naim 2-0 in the Liga Super Malaysia 2024/25 at Stadium MBPJ, Petaling Jaya.
In a match where Jordanian young striker Reziq Bani Hani made his first start for Selangor, the home team found it challenging to break through Kelantan DN’s disciplined defense in the first half.
Despite dominating possession and creating several chances, Selangor only managed two shots on target out of eight attempts, with Kelantan DN’s goalkeeper, Khatul Anwar Md Jalil, making crucial saves.
The breakthrough finally came in the 64th minute when Ronnie Fernandez capitalized on a chaotic situation in the Kelantan DN penalty box, calmly pushing the ball into the net following a well-delivered corner by Yohandry Orozco.
Selangor further extended their lead in the 85th minute after the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) detected a foul on Fernandez in the penalty box, resulting in a penalty. Fernandez confidently converted the spot-kick, securing his second goal of the match.
Late in the game, Faisal Halim, who came on as a substitute, nearly added a third goal with a powerful header that struck the crossbar. Despite continued pressure from Selangor, the match ended 2-0, with Selangor FC maintaining their pursuit of league leaders Johor Darul Ta’zim with 16 points.
