Sabah FC climbed up to 4th rank after beat Terengganu FC scoring 4-0 in the Liga Super Malaysia 2023 at Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium, Gong Badak.
Playing at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium, Gong Badak, Tomislav Steinbruckner’s squad that brought down the ‘second line’ following many injured players seemed to be glued to the pattern of the visitors’ game that pressured the hosts starting in the early minutes of the match.
In that match, Sabah FC, who still have the chance to challenge for the second position in the league, surprised the hosts through a free kick by their imported striker, Ramon Macedo, in the sixth minute after receiving Rizal Ghazali’s cross to take a 1-0 lead.
Five minutes later, the captain of Sabah FC, Park Tae-su, almost added a goal for his team, but his swiped shot stopped at the post and thus escaped the goal of the Turtles squad controlled by Suhaimi Husin.
Stunned by a series of attempts by the visitors, TFC redoubled their efforts and almost succeeded in levelling the score in the 18th minute, but captain Habib Haroon’s powerful shot went slightly over the goal bar, controlled by former national goalkeeper Khairul Fahmi.
In the 29th minute, the visitors managed to add a second goal through Indonesia’s national striker, Saddil Ramdani, who cleverly tricked the home defense before taking a powerful shot from outside the penalty box.
Not enough with the two goals, Datuk Ong Kim Swee’s men seemed to be ‘possessed’ when they managed to add a third goal through a solid shot from outside the penalty box by midfielder Miguel Cifuentes in the 39th minute, who received a cross from Mohd Rizal.
Continuing the second half, the visitors did not wait long to score the fourth goal through substitute Jafri Firdaus Chew who quickly rejected the ball in the 47th minute as a result of Macedo’s cross.
