Penang FC got a crucial point with dramatic after tied Selangor FC scoring 1-1 in the Liga Super Malaysia 2024/25 at Stadium Bandaraya, Pulau Pinang.
Fresh from defeating Selangor in the MFL Challenge Cup, Penang faced the same opponents again in this Super League encounter. Selangor manager Katsuhito Kinoshi fielded a strong starting XI, featuring star players Ronnie Fernandez and Alvin Fortes, while Syamer Kutty Abba led Penang’s midfield efforts.
Selangor struck first in the 10th minute when their prolific striker Ronnie Fernandez unleashed a stunning half-volley. The goal came from a well-timed cross by Quentin Cheng, giving the visitors an early advantage.
Despite Penang’s persistent attempts to respond, their attacking lineup failed to convert chances, leaving them trailing 0-1 at halftime.
The second half saw Penang intensify their attack, with goalkeeper Kalamullah Al-Hafiz and Selangor’s defensive line working hard to maintain the visitors’ lead.
However, Selangor’s hopes of securing all three points were dashed in stoppage time. A penalty awarded to Penang was calmly converted by Rafael Vitor, sending the home fans into a frenzy and securing a valuable point for the hosts.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw, with Penang earning a dramatic result against a strong Selangor side.
