Malaysian Football League (MFL) announced the postponed opening match of Liga Super Malaysia 2024/25 for one week, from 3-5 May to 10-12 May 2024, following FIFA’s inspection of the Video Assistant Referee(VAR) system.
Following the change of the inspection date of the International Football Federation (FIFA) for the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system which was previously scheduled for February 2024 to a new date of 16 to 21 April 2024, the kick-off date of the 2024-2025 Malaysia League has been moved by a week to allow the MFL to hold VAR system test match series.
“The series of VAR test matches involving Malaysian League clubs that will be held from 22 April to 5 May 2024 can only be done after the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) gets approval from FIFA,” MFL explained this.
“As previously announced by the MFL, the VAR system that will be used in this year’s Malaysian League is based on the concept of a VAR car, and the series of test matches is important for the MFL to test the stability, robustness and durability of the VAR system in live competitive matches.”
“In fact, the test match is also important for the MFL to test the movement of the VAR car to the venues, broadcast management, the understanding of the officials and the team and the level of readiness of the venue facilities involved.”
“Following the change in the FIFA inspection date, the MFL had to delay the start date of the Malaysia League by a week compared to the original date of May 3-5 to May 10-12, 2024.”
“The MFL is currently in discussions with the clubs involved in this match series and more information about this plan will be announced as soon as the details have been finalised,”
