Johor Darul Ta’zim reaffirmed their supremacy in the Liga Super Malaysia with a crushing 6-0 victory over Penang FC on Thursday night at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, Iskandar Puteri.
The Southern Tigers were in complete control from the first whistle, with Syihan Hazmi guarding the posts, Joao Figueiredo spearheading the attack, and skipper Arif Aiman leading by example. Penang, meanwhile, relied on veteran goalkeeper Khairulazhan Khalid and captain Stefano Brundo in defense, but they found themselves overwhelmed by JDT’s relentless pressure.
JDT needed just nine minutes to open the scoring, courtesy of Jairo Da Silva, who slotted home to give the hosts an early lead. From there, the floodgates opened.
Captain Arif Aiman doubled the advantage in the 18th minute before adding his second in the 32nd, showcasing his clinical finishing and leadership. A minute later, Joao Figueiredo capitalized on a costly error by Khairulazhan to make it 4-0.
The first-half demolition was completed in stoppage time when defender Jon Irazabal powered home JDT’s fifth goal, sending the Southern Tigers into the break with a commanding lead.
Despite their comfortable cushion, JDT refused to ease off. Just seven minutes into the restart, Antonio Glauder added his name to the scoresheet in the 52nd minute, sealing the sixth goal of the night.
The Harimau Selatan continued to dictate play with wave after wave of attacks, maintaining possession and frustrating Penang’s attempts to mount a response. The visitors were left chasing shadows as JDT displayed both defensive solidity and attacking flair.
The match ended 6-0, giving JDT another emphatic win and all three points in their fifth fixture of the 2025/26 Liga Super season. The reigning champions remain firm favorites to continue their domestic dominance as they eye another league title.
