Li Tie, the former head coach of the China national team, pleaded guilty to accepting bribes worth almost US$10 million(RM47 million) after a court hearing that exposed corruption in Chinese football,
Li Tie and the former chairman of the Chinese Football Association(CFA), Chen Xuyuan, are among those undergoing a court trial for accepting bribes, and Chen Xuyuan received a life sentence this week for accepting bribes worth US$11 million(RM52 million).
Li Tie, who is also a former Everton player, attracted the attention of journalists because he held the position of head coach of the Chinese team for two years from January 2020 to December 2021.
Li Tie made almost 100 appearances for the Chinese national team and 34 appearances for Everton in the Premier League between 2002 and 2004.
The court will decide the fate of Li Tie in the near future after he pleaded guilty to accepting bribes and fixing matches when he was a Chinese coach and a club coach in the Chinese Super League.
