Malaysia’s mixed doubles pair Jimmy Wong and Lai Pei Jing continued their stellar run at the IKSAN VICTOR Korea Masters 2025, storming into the final after a thrilling three-game victory over local favourites An Yun-seong and Lee Yu-lim at the Wonkwang University Cultural and Sports Centre in Iksan on Saturday.
The world No. 37 pairing lived up to their billing as the tournament’s third seeds, prevailing 21-14, 19-21, 21-15 in a pulsating 59-minute encounter that showcased their composure, tactical intelligence, and fighting spirit.
Despite the pressure of facing a Korean duo — with An Yun-seong notably being the younger brother of women’s singles superstar An Se-young — the Malaysians stayed disciplined and calm throughout.
Jimmy and Pei Jing started strongly, dictating the rallies with sharp net play and aggressive midcourt interceptions to claim the opening game. However, the hosts struck back in the second game, feeding off home support to level the match.
In the deciding game, the Malaysian pair showed their experience and resilience, regaining control through precise placement and quick transitions. A late surge sealed the victory and booked their place in the final — their second BWF final appearance of the season.
In Sunday’s championship match, Jimmy and Lai Pei Jing will face another home challenge against Kim Jae-hyeon and Jeong Na-eun, who earlier defeated compatriots Wang Chan and Kim Yu-jung 21-19, 21-10 in the other semi-final.
