Kim Pan-Gon, head coach of Malaysia national team, was proud when his men completed the ‘almost impossible mission’ by returning to win 4-3 for the first three points for the FIFA World Cup 2026 Asian Qualifiers Round 2 Group D.
“As a coach in that situation, I almost had a heart attack,” Pan-Gon said in a post-match press conference.
“What can we do after we lead 1-0 but then go 1-3 behind? But I leave it to the players; I say to the players that this is your country, you are playing for Malaysia, so everything is in your hands.”
“I can only help to motivate, create a good atmosphere, give information and that’s all I can do in terms of team preparation.”
“The rest, when on the field, it all depends on the players. The players and the supporters created this situation (victory). Hopefully it can happen again (resurgence).”
“But this is an amazing match and it’s hard to expect the result of a match like this,”
“We know what needs to be done and if we can’t show a good performance, we won’t qualify to go to the next round.”
“But this match is very different because we are playing away, so we have to prepare well enough to get three more points,”
