Kim Pan-Gon, head coach of Malaysia national team, described the will of the players who want to fight for victory as the main factor in Malaysia’s success in winning over Chinese Taipei 1-0 in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Asian Qualifiers Round 2 Group D last night.
In addition, KPG did not want to take credit for the tactical switch that saw Darren Lok score the winning goal after being substituted to end his previous winless streak in Taipei.
“I feel delighted because we deserve to win. Congratulations to the players and Malaysians because they should be proud of the Harimau Malaya.” KPG said in a post-match press conference.
“We have expected a difficult match because the opposing team has the spirit to fight, but our spirit is more than the opponent, and for that reason, we managed to overcome this difficult obstacle and approach the next round and make me proud and appreciate the players’ efforts.”
“The players’ will to win is the main reason for this victory, not the change I made. I could see from the first half that they showed that desire but were unlucky because they didn’t manage to score early,”
However, KPG also does not want to complain about the pitch being in poor condition but he wants the players to constantly adapt quickly to the situation because it is the opposing team that makes the match difficult.
“We cannot complain about the pitch because both teams play on the same pitch. This happens a lot in different countries, and we have to learn it, but the game becomes difficult not because of the pitch but the opposing players who play well.” KPG explained.
“We will be safe if we get 12 points, and now we have six points. Away games are always difficult, and we have to prepare well. Congratulations to Malaysians because we managed to win for the first time in Taipei and hope to maintain our performance to get six more points, which will ensure we go to the third round,”
