Korea Republic Football Association (KFA) issued a statement for sacked Jurgen Klinsmann, a German coach aged 59, out of position as head coach of Korea Republic national team. According to the resolution of the Korea Republic National Team Council members.
Klinsmann’s performance failed after leading the Korea Republic national team to be eliminated from the semi-finals of the AFC Asian Cup 2023, and they can’t control their mental situation in the training camp during the tournament.
“First of all, we are very sorry for disappointing many people, including soccer fans and soccer players, by failing to meet expectations at the AFC Asian Cup.” Chung Mong-gyu, president of KFA, said.
“As the head of the organization that runs the national soccer team, I humbly accept the criticism and reprimands leveled at me and the Korea Football Association and would like to apologize.”
“After finishing this Asian Cup, the Association conducted an overall analysis and evaluation of the national team’s participation in the game. Yesterday, the National Power Strengthening Committee was held and discussed, and this morning, the association’s executive officers received a report on these details and gathered opinions.”
“At this event, the evaluation of the national team coach was mainly discussed.”
“After comprehensively reviewing the discussion, the Korea Football Association finally decided to replace the national team coach.”
“Coach Klinsmann failed to demonstrate the coaching ability and leadership that we expect from a coach of the Korean national team, such as game management, player management, and work attitude that lead to the national team’s competitiveness.”
“The national team is more than just a sports team; it is a team that represents the Republic of Korea in name and reality, garnering the attention and support of the people and returning that energy to the people. This must continue to be the case.”
“However, as a result of various discussions and opinions, Coach Klinsmann’s competitiveness and attitude as a coach did not meet the expectations and sentiments of the people, and it was judged that it would be difficult to improve in the future, so it was decided to replace the head coach before the second qualifying round of the 2026 North, Central and American World Cup.”
“It is time to reorganise the national soccer team, The Korea Football Association will immediately begin the process of appointing the next coach to lead the second qualifying round of the 2026 North and Central America World Cup. Prior to this, we will form a new Power Strengthening Committee and appoint a chairperson.”
“Meanwhile, internal problems within the team have recently emerged, causing disappointment to fans.”
“Long group life of over a month. And although this happened in a sensitive situation amidst a series of physically and mentally difficult games, I believe it has significant implications and needs to be considered in the future management of the national team.”
“In the future, we will seek various measures to prevent similar situations from happening again, such as organizing the coaching staff and reorganizing the player management system.”
“We apologise once again for disappointing and causing concern to the people who passionately supported the national team regarding this tournament.”
