Despite suffering a crushing 0-7 defeat to Selangor FC, Kelantan Darul Naim (KDN FC) is battling challenges far beyond the pitch.
Assistant head coach Rezal Zambery Yahya has revealed the dire circumstances the team is facing, including a lack of training sessions and ongoing salary issues.
Speaking after the match at MBPJ Stadium, Rezal admitted that the team does not train together and only gathers players a day before each fixture. This, he said, has severely impacted the squad’s preparation and performance.
“This heavy defeat truly reflects our situation. We haven’t trained together. Only yesterday, the players gathered, trained once, and then went into the match against Selangor,” Rezal disclosed.
“As a coach, it’s heartbreaking to watch, but this is our reality, and we have to accept it. The players still showed up for the match, and for that, I have to thank them.”
He further revealed that since their Challenge Cup match against Selangor in the second round, the squad has not held any training sessions. Instead, they merely assemble the day before a game and head straight into action.
“So, for us to organize the players and form a proper squad is incredibly difficult. It all depends on who is available. I have to ask the players who can come, and that’s all I can do.”
Rezal also confirmed that the root of these issues is unresolved salary payments, which have left players struggling with their personal finances.
“Yes, the salary issue is the main cause. Most of the players are from outside, and if they haven’t been paid for a long time, they can’t afford to pay rent or other necessities.”
Despite the grim situation, Rezal acknowledged the efforts of the club’s management in trying to resolve the problem, urging patience from all parties.
“We know the management is working hard to fix this. Hopefully, the issue will be resolved soon.”
With just seven points from 21 matches, Kelantan DN sits at the bottom of the Liga Super Malaysia table, with their struggles evident both on and off the field.
The road ahead remains uncertain, but unless drastic changes occur, the Golden Deers face a bleak end to the season.
