Malaysian MMA fighter Jihin Radzuan was forced out from her scheduled bout against Japan’s Ayaka Miura at ONE Fight Night 25 after failing to pass the hydration test, a requirement under ONE Championship’s strict weight and hydration policies.
The fight, set for Saturday morning, was highly anticipated as part of the MMA Atomweight division, but it was officially canceled due to Jihin’s failure to meet hydration standards, despite making weight. ONE Championship enforces a hydration test to ensure fighters compete at their natural weight, reducing health risks associated with extreme weight cutting.
In an Instagram post, Jihin shared her disappointment, explaining that while she successfully hit the required weight, she narrowly missed passing the hydration test by a reading of 1.0252.
“Made weight but missed hydration by 1.0252,” she wrote. “My fight camp was good, my weight went down accordingly, and still, I didn’t do enough to make this happen. I am truly sorry, especially to my opponent Ayaka Miura, my sponsors, coaches, training partners, my family, and my supporters.”
Jihin’s regret was evident, as she expressed her apology to Miura and the fight community, emphasizing the support she received from her sponsors, including Klinik Pergigian Afya, Iron Fist Gym LLC, Fairtex Training Center, and several others.
ONE Championship’s hydration test is unique compared to most other MMA organizations. It mandates that fighters not only make the required weight but also maintain proper hydration levels, measured by urine-specific gravity (USG). The purpose is to protect fighters’ health by preventing dangerous weight-cutting practices.
Failing the hydration test, even slightly, results in the automatic cancellation of the fight, as was the case with Jihin Radzuan. This marks a significant setback for Jihin, who had been preparing for the bout with a successful training camp. Despite gaining the necessary weight, the hydration test result halted her participation.
Jihin’s journey in ONE Championship has seen her rise as one of Malaysia’s top MMA talents. Her missed opportunity at ONE Fight Night 25 is an unfortunate hurdle, but she remains determined to return stronger. With her dedication and the support of her team, Jihin will undoubtedly look to recover from this setback and prepare for her next fight.
