We are finally into the quarter-finals of the Japan Open 2022. With each round and each match throwing surprises, this edition has been super entertaining and completely unpredictable. The betting numbers have been changing shape and quantities with each tie and despite having favorites, one can still not predict the winners.
Men’s Single
Thailand’s Kunlavut VITIDSARN lost to Kantaphon WANGCHAROEN, who came from the same country, in two set matches, 19-21, 7-21. Taiwan’s CHOU Tien Chen [4], advance into Round 8, beating China’s LU Guang Zu, 21-9 and 21-11.
Denmark’s Anders ANTONSEN [3] defeated Japan’s Kodai NARAOKA, 21-17, 16-21, and 21-19 today.
Women’s Single
Thailand’s Pornpawee CHOCHUWONG defeated WANG Zhi Yi in a two-set game, 21-16 and 21-16. CHOCHUWONG will face World Ranking No.1, Japan’s Akane YAMAGUCHI [1], in the quarter-finals. Meanwhile, Supanida KATETHONG lost to Korea’s AN Se Young, 21-15 and 21-11.
Thailand’s star shuttler, Ratchanok INTANON [8], advanced into the quarter-finals by defeating China’s Han Yue, 21-16, 13-21, and 21-19. The star will face Taiwanese player TAI Tzu Ying [2].
China’s CHEN Yu Fei [4] defeated USA’s Beiwen ZHANG, 21-15 and 21-10, advancing into Round 8.
Men’s Double
Thailand’s Supak JOMKOH/Kittinupong KEDREN lost to Indonesia’s Fajar ALFIAN/Muhammad Rian ARDIANTO [5]. On the other hand, the “Daddies” Mohammad AHSAN/Hendra SETIAWAN [3] also lost to China’s LIANG Wei Keng/WANG Chang. As a result, they were leaving the Japan Open 2022.
Malaysia’s pair, ONG Yew Sin/TEO Ee Yi [8], defeated France’s Christo POPOV/Toma Junior POPOV in a two-set match, 21-13 and 21-13.
Women’s Double
Malaysia duo, Vivian HOO/LIM Chiew Sien, got defeated by China’s CHEN Qing Chen/JIA Yi Fan [1], 16-21 and 14-21. The Malaysia duo exited the quarter-finals today.
Another Malaysia pair, TAN Pearly/THINAAH Muralitharan, who faced Korea’s BAEK Ha Na/LEE Yu Lim, retired from the game due to TAN’s injury in the middle of the game. The game ended with 13-21, 21-19, and 16-11 (RETIRED).
Thailand’s double, Jongkolphan KITITHARAKUL/Rawinda PRAJONGJAI [7], defeated China’s ZHANG Shu Xian/ZHENG Yu by 21-19 and 21-14 today. Meanwhile, another Thailand pair, Supissara PAEWSAMPRAN/Puttita SUPAJIRAKUL, lost to Korea’s JEONG Na Eun/KIM Hye Jeong, thus exiting Japan Open 2022.
Mixed’s Double
Thailand’s mixed, Supak JOMKOH/Supissara PAEWSAMPRAN, lost to World Ranking No.1, China’s ZHENG Si Wei/HUANG Ya Qiong [1], 21-7 and 21-11. Dechapol PUAVARANUKROH/Sapsiree TAERATTANACHAI from Thailand, defeated Singapore’s HEE Yong Kai Terry/TAN Wei Han Jessica, with the score of 21-14, 21-13.
Malaysia’s mixed pair, HOO Pang Ron/TOH Ee Wei, defeated Netherland’s Robin TABELING/Selene PIEK, in 68 minutes, with a score of 29-30, 21-18, and 21-11. On the other hand, TAN Kian Meng/LAI Pei Jing [7] also defeated Taiwanese YANG Po-Hsuan/HU Ling Fang. Both Malaysia’s mixed pair march on.
Meanwhile, another Malaysia’s pair, GOH Soon Huat/LAI Shevon Jemie, lost to Japan’s Yuta WATANABE/Arisa HIGASHINO [3].
