Malaysia hockey national team is down to play in the 11th-12th place round after losing to Belgium hockey national team in the penalties shoot-out scoring 3-5 after tied 2-2 in the FIH Junior World Cup 2023 Classification Round 9th-12th crossover at Hockey National Stadium, Kuala Lumpur.
In today’s action, Belgium was first in front through a field goal completed by Max Luyten in the 28th minute.
The world’s fifth-ranked side then widened the gap as the second half resumed after a 40-minute rain delay when Hugo Labouchere converted a penalty corner in the 36th minute.
However, the Young Tigers squad did not give up when they finally managed to score the first goal through a field goal by midfielder Muhammad Adam Ashraf Mohd Johari in the 37th minute.
Malaysia managed to equalize after being awarded a stroke penalty which was completed by Mohammad Harris Iskandar Osman in the 51st minute thus forcing the match to be decided through a shoot-out.
The deciding shoot-out saw Malaysia midfielder, Alfarico Lance Liau fail to complete his task as Belgium managed to end all five chances.
The national squad will be in action in the 11/12 classification match this Friday.
