Johor Darul Ta’zim is bracing for a high-stakes encounter against Buriram United in the second leg of the AFC Champions League Elite 2024/25 Round of 16, with every possibility—including extra time and penalties—on the table.
With the first leg ending in a goalless stalemate, Hector Bidoglio’s men will have home advantage as they welcome the Thai champions to Sultan Ibrahim Stadium (SSI) tomorrow night.
“My focus is to win in 90 minutes,” said Bidoglio during the pre-match press conference.
“I have a very strong squad, and we must be prepared for any situation, whether it’s extra time or penalty shootouts.
“No problem—we need to stick to our philosophy and aim for victory. We have to be compact, organized, and proactive. But tomorrow will be different, with our supporters behind us at our home ground.
“We want to prove that JDT is growing and deserves to be in the ACLE. This is a chance to make history.
“Our focus must be on every detail, and we must avoid costly mistakes.”
Defender Matthew Davies echoed his coach’s confidence, believing JDT has what it takes to progress past Buriram for the first time.
“Buriram is a strong team, but we trust our club’s philosophy and the work we’ve put in.
“Tomorrow will be completely different in front of 34,000 fans at SSI.
“It’s never easy to play away in the ACLE, and it’s just as tough for opponents to come here and get a result.”
