Johor Darul Ta’zim will have their backs against the wall as they face Australian club Central Coast Mariners in a crucial Asian Champions League Elite (ACLE) Eastern Zone Group match at Central Coast Stadium tomorrow evening.
Victory is imperative for the Southern Tigers to keep their hopes alive for a spot in the round of 16.
JDT head coach Hector Bidoglio acknowledged the daunting challenge of facing Mark Jackson’s squad, renowned for their dynamic play and experience in the highly competitive Australian A-League.
“It’s an important match for us. Central Coast Mariners are a strong team with young, fast, and physical players,” Bidoglio noted. “We need to be tactically disciplined and carefully execute our game plan because victory is our main mission to be among the top eight teams in the Eastern Zone.”
Bidoglio added that meticulous analysis of the Mariners’ playing style had been carried out.
“They rely heavily on set-pieces, and we need to be vigilant to avoid getting caught by their tactics,” he said.
JDT currently sits sixth in the group with eight points, trailing Pohang Steelers (South Korea) with nine points. Shanghai Port (China) and Buriram United (Thailand) also have eight points but are ahead due to goal difference.
A win would dramatically improve JDT’s chances of advancing and maintaining their standing among Asia’s football elite.
The Argentine coach confirmed that key players Murilo Henrique, Juan Muniz, and Park Jun-heong are unavailable due to suspension. However, recent Spanish imports Alvaro Gonzales, Jonathan Viera, and Roque Mesa will provide crucial reinforcements.
“I won’t deny that it’s challenging to quickly establish chemistry with the new players, but we’ve had detailed discussions to align their understanding of JDT’s playing philosophy,” Bidoglio explained.
“We must also improve discipline in both defense and attack because any mistakes will be easily punished by a strong team like the Mariners,” he emphasized.
