Prince Jefri Ibrahim reignited his GT World Challenge Asia powered by AWS title charge with a dominant lights-to-flag victory in Race 2 at the Chang International Circuit, partnering with Ben Green to deliver a flawless performance for the Corvette Racing outfit.
Green, who started from pole, immediately took control of the race and held off Maxime Oosten in the opening stint, showcasing both pace and composure. The British driver not only maintained the lead but also set the fastest lap of the race, underlining Corvette’s superiority on the day.
When Prince Jefri took over at the driver change, he emerged from the pits just ahead of the Team KRC BMW, now piloted by Ruan Cun Fan. From there, it was a tight tactical battle to the finish as both cars shadowed each other lap after lap. Despite relentless pressure, Ibrahim kept his cool and held on to clinch victory by just 0.3 seconds at the chequered flag.
The result was made even sweeter as former championship leaders Bob Yuan and Leo Ye endured a disastrous weekend, failing to score for the second consecutive race. Their misfortune propelled Ibrahim to the top of the overall standings, where he now holds a slender six-point lead at the halfway mark of the 12-round campaign.
Climax Racing’s Mike Zhou and Ralf Aron rebounded from Saturday’s disappointment to secure third place in their Mercedes-AMG, completing the overall podium.
There was further redemption in the Silver class for Uno Racing. After retiring early in Race 1, Rio and Shaun Thong bounced back in style to capture their first class win of the season with a spirited drive.
In the Am category, David Tjiptobiantoro and Christian Colombo of Garage 75 held off Ben Porter in a closely fought contest to claim a hard-earned class victory.
With momentum on their side and the championship lead now in hand, Prince Jefri Ibrahim and Ben Green have firmly established themselves as the team to beat heading into the second half of the GT World Challenge Asia season.
