The talented Malaysian women’s singles badminton player, Goh Jin Wei, was deeply disappointed to discover that the limited accreditation slots for the Olympics had already been filled, preventing her coach, Nova Armada, from accompanying her.
Goh expressed her frustration on Instagram, stating, “Sad news, I couldn’t bring my coach along with me because of limited allocations of accreditation cards. I guess I’m the only athlete without a coach sitting behind.”
She further articulated her disappointment, noting the significance of the Olympics as a prestigious and possibly once-in-a-lifetime event. Competing without her coach, who had guided her every day, was hard to accept. “I understand there’s a priority or prospect, but why am I the only one getting left out (without a coach)? I will still give 200% during the games and fight for the country and the people who believed in me. I feel so sorry to my coach who can’t be there with me when it comes down to the final stages. Still, I’ll walk the walk,” she said.
Despite this setback, Goh’s journey will continue with the guidance of Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) coach director Rexy Mainaky at the Paris Olympics 2024. She will train alongside BAM players and receive support from the national sports institutes in Paris.
