Malaysia national football squad has received a significant boost with the addition of left-back Gabriel Palmero, who currently plays in Spain.
This revelation was made by Astro Arena journalist Zulhelmi Zainal Azam, confirming the 23-year-old as the latest heritage player to strengthen Harimau Malaya.
National team head coach Peter Cklamovski validated the news, highlighting Palmero’s inclusion alongside Portimonense midfielder Hector Hevel. When asked about their status, Cklamovski expressed his enthusiasm for the duo’s arrival.
“As I mentioned last week, I have good news. We have two players who have been approved,” Cklamovski said.
“Hector (Hevel) is one of them, and (Gabriel) Palmero, who plays for a third-division team in Spain, is also a new member of the Harimau Malaya squad. We are very excited, and for me, it’s not about where they come from. They are Malaysians, and we will be a Malaysian team.”
Palmero is currently on loan at CD Tenerife B from Las Palmas, having previously played for Gimnastica Segoviana. His presence is expected to intensify the competition for the left-back position in the national team, with seasoned defenders Corbin Ong and Daniel Ting also vying for a starting role.
This latest recruitment further reinforces Malaysia’s growing strategy of integrating talented heritage players into the squad, as they prepare for upcoming international fixtures. Palmero’s European experience could prove invaluable in strengthening Malaysia’s defensive capabilities on the international stage.
With the national team set for crucial competitions, fans eagerly await how Palmero’s arrival will impact Harimau Malaya’s defensive structure. His addition signals Malaysia’s continuous efforts to build a competitive squad capable of challenging on bigger stages.
