The desire of local football fans to see the clash between Sri Pahang FC VS Kuala Lumpur City in the pre-season match of the Federal Territory Minister’s Cup on 17 February did not come true when the Sri Pahang FC announced their withdrawal from the tournament.
The decision was taken because some Sri Pahang players tested positive for COVID-19, forcing them to cancel their participation in the match.
“This decision had to be taken after some of our players tested positive for COVID-19 and complied with the instructions of the Ministry of Health Malaysia to undergo compulsory quarantine.” the Sri Pahang FC official statement wrote.
“We understand this decision will definitely disappoint the supporters but public health and safety as well as everyone who will be involved in this match is a priority at this time.
“We also apologize to the organizers for this last minute decision and hope that KL City’s preparations for the Contribution Cup action on February 26 will continue to run smoothly,”
The development was also confirmed by Kuala Lumpur City. However, the Federal Territories Minister’s Cup competition continued as usual against other teams.
“However, the Federal Territories Minister’s Cup will continue as usual with different teams. More details will be announced soon,” said a statement from KL City.
