Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) is considering nominating the goals of two JDT players, Safawi Rasid and Fernando Forestieri for the FIFA Puskas Award 2023.
The matter was stated by Noor Azman Rahman, FAM General Secretary who admitted that his party was ready to send Safawi’s goal to the prestigious award.
“Regarding Safawi’s goal, next week I will return to Kuala Lumpur and we (Technical Committee) will evaluate the goal for consideration by Puskas,” Noor Azman said.
Safawi made the third goal of Malaysia and he helped the national team beat the Solomon Islands 4-1 catching the attention of football fans around the world.
The goal was achieved through two beautiful touches without hitting the grass to overcome the opponent’s defense before Safawi unleashed a half-volley with his left foot that the goalkeeper failed to stop.
In addition, Noor Azman also admitted that the amazing goal of Johor Darul Ta’zim import player, Fernando Forestieri who performed a scissor kick against Terengganu FC in the recent Super League action will also be considered for the Fifa Puskas Award.
“It’s Forestieri’s goal we will also discuss later along with Safawi’s goal,” he said.
