The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) takes seriously the views of its former president Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, regarding the failure of the national squad at the AFF Suzuki Cup 2020 in Singapore, last December.
FAM president Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin said he personally respected the remarks and suggestions given by Tunku Ismail.
He said FAM would also look into all the problems raised by Tunku Mahkota Johor (TMJ), for the good of the Malaysia national football.
“I pay tribute to TMJ and will look into the proposal submitted by him” FAM president said regarding the failure of the Malaysia national team with Bernama.
“We take from a positive angle all the remarks and we will refine the suggestions for the benefit of all parties, especially in the management of national football,”
Yesterday, Tunku Ismail, who is also the owner of Johor Darul Ta’zim Football Club (JDT), outlined some of FAM’s weaknesses, which were seen to affect the failure of the Malayan Tigers squad in the AFF Suzuki Cup 2020 campaign after being stranded as early as the group stage.
Among the concerns of Tunku Ismail is the failure of FAM to provide a clearer picture and explanation, on the situation of the national squad to the media, apart from the failure to make initial plans and targets for the final placed on the national team.
Tunku Ismail said this in an exclusive live interview with a Astro Arena Channel, to discuss the issues behind the declining performance of the national squad and the failure of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2020.
At the AFF Suzuki Cup, Malaysia, which came down as runners-up in the 2018 edition, failed to advance to the knockout stage, after finishing third in Group B, behind Indonesia and defending champions Vietnam.
Following the failure, Tan Cheng Hoe decided to resign as head coach since 2017, before FAM Deputy President Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mahadi also took the responsibility of resigning as national squad manager.
