Datuk Seri Mohd Joehari Ayub, President of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), has called for further clarification from Malaysia National Team head coach Peter Cklamovski regarding his recent controversial remarks that hinted at internal betrayal and political interference surrounding the national team.
Cklamovski, after Malaysia’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Vietnam, made statements suggesting there were efforts by certain individuals to sabotage the national team’s preparations, describing the situation as a daily battle with “internal betrayal, politics, and obstacles.”
“There are some internal issues happening—elements of betrayal, politics, and barriers we face every single day,” said Cklamovski following the win over Vietnam.
“If we hadn’t won tonight, they would’ve attacked us. They would’ve gone after TMJ (HRH Tunku Mahkota Ismail, Regent of Johor), and they would’ve come after me, calling me a poor coach.”
“They would’ve even turned on the players because of the result.”
“But now, because we won 4-0, they’ll suddenly act like our best friends and stand beside me.”
In response to these remarks, FAM President Joehari expressed uncertainty and concern over the meaning behind the coach’s statements, emphasizing that FAM has always stood behind the national team’s efforts.
“We are unsure what Peter Cklamovski actually meant by those remarks,” Joehari said during a press conference on Monday.
“It would be best to ask Peter directly for a full explanation, but from FAM’s side, I can assure you that we have always given 100% support to the national team.”
The FAM President described the comments as “speculative”, adding that FAM has no knowledge of any such betrayal or obstruction.
“As the President, I stand firm in saying that FAM’s commitment to Harimau Malaya remains unchanged.”
“What Peter said could be interpreted in many ways, and to be fair to all parties, we believe the explanation should come from him directly.”
While Cklamovski’s remarks came in the aftermath of a high-profile win, they have raised eyebrows for their tone and timing, especially as Harimau Malaya continues to gain momentum under his leadership. Datuk Joehari’s response signals FAM’s intent to maintain transparency, accountability, and harmony within the national setup.
The episode underscores the delicate balance between coaching autonomy and institutional responsibility, as the national team enters a crucial phase of preparation for upcoming regional and international challenges.
All eyes will now be on Peter Cklamovski’s next move—whether he will clarify, double down, or walk back his statement—as fans and officials alike seek assurance that the focus remains squarely on football.
