The newly-appointed national head coach, Kim Pan Gon, today officially confirmed E. Elavarasan as the local assistant coach to serve under his coaching unit.
Born on January 5, 1962, Elavarasan is the head coach of Sarawak United FC, a role he has filled in since February 2020. The former Selangor and Public Bank defender guided Sarawak United to the runners-up spot in the 2021 Premier League to earn promotion to the Super League.
Pan Gon believes Elavarasan meets the criteria as a coach who is familiar with the players and possesses vast experience in the domestic scene.
“After studying the candidates who had been earlier interviewed by FAM Technical Director, Scott O’Donell, I personally met Elavarasan. I believe Elavarasan is the best candidate and the most suitable individual to assist me in providing accurate information and opinions on the team.”
“I can see Elavarasan as a committed coach who is geared up to give his full co-operation in helping us to take Harimau Malaya to a higher level,” Kim Pan-Gon said.
Elavarasan who had never been involved in the FAM set-up before, considers the appointment as a huge honour and a national duty.
“I see this assignment as a challenge and also the opportunity for me to contribute at national level. I am happy to be part of this new project.
“My hope is that the coaching team is able to adapt quickly to the head coach’s work ethics and philosophy ahead of a few major tournaments this year.”
“I wish to also thank Sarawak United for giving me an early release from my contract and not forgetting the players and the fans who had given their fullest co-operation to me throughout my stint at Sarawak United,” E. Elavarasan said.
Earlier, in his inaugural media conference on February 17, 2022, Pan Gon unveiled his coaching team comprising Pau Marti Vicente (assistant coach), Cho Junho (goalkeeper coach), Dr. Gokhan Kandemir (fitness coach) and Lim Jaehun (performance analyst coach).
Under Pan Gon, Harimau Malaya is scheduled to start their first centralised training camp on March 14 for two Tier 1 International Matches against the Philippines on March 23 and Singapore on March 26, 2022. Both matches will be held in Singapore.
