Datuk Haji Hamidin Haji Mohd Amin, President of Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), named the three key strategies discussed for the strengthening of national football; namely new Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technologies, through FIFA Tier 1 international matches, and crafting broader plans to send top national talent to play foreign clubs.
Datuk Haji Hamidin attended the 73rd FIFA Congress, his first as a FIFA Council Member, in Kigali, Rwanda, yesterday. At the event, he had the opportunity to meet with Pierluigi Collina, Chairman of the FIFA Referee Committee alongside other international football leaders, and went on to highlight the new propositions discussed.
“Collina explained that there are two types of VAR that are available to us for our choosing, namely ‘Full VAR’ which is equipped with a minimum of eight cameras, or ‘VAR Light’, which has less than eight cameras,” DHMA said in a statement after the meeting.
“Although Collina suggested the Full VAR option, he explained that VAR Light can also be used during the initial stages due to its cheaper price (by 50 per cent).
“But Collina reminds us of course that VAR Light’s quality would greatly differ from that of Full VAR,”
