Denmark Open 2026: Hoo-Lai Stun Thai No.5 as Four Malaysian Pairs Storm Into QF
Chia/Soh and Goh/Izzuddin win all-Malaysian men's doubles derbies, while Goh/Shevon and Chen/Chan fall to seeded opposition
Four Malaysian pairs advanced to the quarter-finals of the Victor Denmark Open on Thursday, with Hoo Pang Ron and Lai Pei Jing producing the shock of the Round of 16 by dismantling Thailand's fifth seeds at the HSBC BWF World Tour Super 750 event.
The mixed doubles pair were ruthless against Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Supissara Paewsampran, racing through the first game 21-7 before closing out the second 21-11 for a straight-games win.
The draw handed Malaysia two all-Malaysian men's doubles ties, guaranteeing two quarter-finalists from the discipline.
Fourth seeds Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik edged the first game 21-18 against Aaron Tai and Yap Roy King, then pulled clear 21-11. Tai and Yap, who had rallied past Korea in the previous round, bowed out.
In the other derby, sixth seeds Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin beat Chia Wei Jie and Teo Ee Yi 21-18, 21-11, ending the run of a pair who had beaten Chinese Taipei in the opening round.
Second seeds Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah were made to work by Hong Kong's Yeung Nga Ting and Yeung Pui Lam. After a comfortable 21-12 first game, the Malaysians held off a stronger challenge to take the second 21-19 and secure a straight-games win.
Two Malaysian mixed doubles pairs went out against seeded opposition.
Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Lai never found a foothold against Denmark's third seeds, Mathias Christiansen and Alexandra Bøje, losing the first game 7-21 before falling 18-21 in the second.
Chen Tang Jie and Chan Wen Tse pushed China's sixth seeds, Guo Xin Wa and Chen Fang Hui, all the way. They won a tense first game 23-21, but lost the second 18-21 and the decider 20-22, missing out by two points in the third
