Malaysia’s top mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei will have to wait longer to end their title drought this season after bowing out in the semi-finals of the Denmark Open 2025 at the Jyske Bank Arena earlier today.
The reigning world champions fought valiantly but eventually fell to the world’s top-ranked Chinese duo, Jiang Zhen Bang and Wei Ya Xin, in a gripping three-game contest that lasted 65 minutes, ending 17-21, 21-18, 18-21.
After a slow start in the opening game, Tang Jie and Ee Wei regrouped impressively in the second, showing composure and tactical precision to level the score and force a decider.
However, in the deciding game, a few unforced errors at crucial moments proved costly as the Chinese pair capitalized on every opportunity to seal the match 21-18, denying the Malaysians a place in Sunday’s final.
The result also served as revenge for Jiang and Wei, who lost to Chen-Toh in the 2024 BWF World Championships final in Paris last August. This time, the Chinese duo showed greater control under pressure, showcasing why they currently hold the world’s No. 1 ranking.
For Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei, the defeat marks another near miss in their search for a BWF World Tour title this season. Their best finish in 2025 so far was a runner-up spot at the China Masters, with their last World Tour triumphs coming in Korea Open 2024, Orleans Masters 2023, and Taiwan Open 2023.
