Kim Pan-Gon, head coach of Malaysia national team, has announced via Football Association of Malaysia(FAM) that Matthew Davies and Junior Eldstal, two defenders of Johor Darul Ta’Zim, will not travel to Oman for FIFA World Cup 2026 Asian Qualifiers Round 2 Group D Matchday 3 due to suffered injuries.
In 15 March, only the remaining eight players, seven from Johor Darul Ta’zim and Dion Cools from Buriram United reported to Malaysia national team centralised training camp
While two players, Matthew Davies and Junior Eldstal did not report after JDT informed that both of them had suffered injuries during a training match on 14 March 2024 through an official letter.
Therefore, JDT has requested an exemption for the two players not to report to the national squad and will undergo further rehabilitation treatment with the club. The injury report was attached to the letter.
In the absence of Matthew and Junior, Malaysia national team now has 31 players in the training camp.
Only 24 players will travel to Muscat, Oman, on Sunday, 17 March 2024, to face the third match of Group D, FIFA World Cup 2026 Asian Qualifiers Round 2 Group D against Oman at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex on Thursday, 21 March 2024, at 10.00 pm (2.00 am Friday, Malaysian time).
