Head coach of the Malayan Tigress U-20 squad, Cameron Ng, is brimming with optimism ahead of his team’s opening match against Iran in the Group F qualifiers of the AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup 2026, set to take place tomorrow night at the KLFA Stadium, Cheras.
Speaking during a pre-match press conference earlier today, Cameron expressed hope that his players will step onto the field with high motivation and maximum focus, especially with the advantage of playing on home soil.
“The team’s preparations have gone smoothly. The players have given 100 percent in training and shown great commitment throughout the two-week camp,” Cameron stated.
“We have a solid squad, but what matters most is that I truly believe every player will give everything they’ve got on the pitch.”
Although Iran is seen as a challenging opponent on paper, Cameron remains confident that Malaysia’s thorough preparation will enable the players to put on a commendable performance in their first group match.
“With the quality we have, I’m hopeful that the girls can deliver their best performance tomorrow night.”
He also emphasized the importance of fan support, urging local supporters to turn up at the stadium and help create an uplifting atmosphere for the young Tigress squad.
“I sincerely hope more fans will come out and support the Malayan Tigress U-20 squad at the stadium.
It will surely boost the players’ morale. This is a big moment for them, and they’re determined to make it count.”
The Group F opener kicks off Wednesday, August 6, with Japan facing Guam at 4:45 PM, followed by Malaysia taking on Iran at 8:45 PM — both matches to be held at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium.
This qualifying campaign serves as the first step towards securing a place in the 2026 AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup, which will be held in Thailand from April 1 to 18, 2026. Only the group winners and three best runners-up from across all groups will progress to the final tournament.
