Syria national team clinch first victory in this tournament after beating India 1-0 in the AFC Asian Cup 2023 Group Stage, Group B at Al Thumama Stadium.
The first half turned out to be overwhelming for Syria when they dominated most of the game throughout the first 30 minutes.
Syria had a series of chances by attack machines such as Ibrahim Hesar and Pablo Sabbaq but were successfully denied by the Indian goalkeeper, Gurpreet Sandhu. Before ended first half at 0-0.
Continuing the second half, India tried to organise the movement through the team captain, Sunil Chhetri, but nothing hit the target.
Syria’s hard work is increasingly showing the way and finally managed to be punctuated through the explosion of substitute player, Omar Kharbin.
Jalil Elias’ attempt to block the progress of the Indian attack paid off when Omar managed to score a beautiful goal.
7 minutes of added time did not change the outcome of the match which remained until the final whistle.
Syria currently occupies the third place with 4 points while India is the bottom team with no points.
